Amazing Find at Lindisfarne!
An amateur archaeologist has made an amazing find on the Island of Lindisfarne, the monastic home of St Aidan, the patron of our Manchester community. The grave marker dates from the very earliest time when St Aidan founded his monastery, perhaps as early as 635BC. This now gives us definitive proof of the location of the first monastic structures erected on this site. The monastery was rebuilt after the Viking raids some centuries later and these are the ruins that we see today.
