"The Way"
October 2004 to January 2005
(adapted from an article by Fr. Michael in the Nativity 2004 Deanery
Newsletter)

A crucial event in the Autumn of 2004 has been the first presentation of
"The Way," a ten week programme of talks covering the basics of Orthodox
teaching. The course ended in January 2005 with a banquet.
The course was held at the
Greek
Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Sophia (Holy Wisdom) in London and was an
immediate sell out. Every place was booked and there was a long
waiting list of those wishing to attend in the future.
The course was presented under the auspices of
The Institute for
Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge. The talks were given by
Professor David Frost, Father Demetrios Bathrellos, Mr. John Bazlinton, Miss
Gladys Bland, Father Michael Harper, Father Raphael Armour and Dr. Mangala
Frost. The programme was directed by Professor David Frost.
This was a pilot project with some novel approaches, including beginning
with a meal, after the talk dividing into study groups and with feedback and
a question and answer session with which to conclude. The course was
free.
Those attending came from many Orthodox backgrounds and some came from
non-Orthodox churches.
The course ended with the Divine Liturgy in St. Sophia Cathedral when Fr.
Michael Harper (Antiochian), Father Raphael Armour (Russian) and Father
Demetrios Bathrellos con-celebrated together. His Eminence Archbishop
Gregorios was present and preached and gave his blessings in the service.
Afterwards, he thanked all those in "The Way" for their contribution to The
Orthodox Church. His Grace Bishop Theodoritos was also present and
warmly welcomed everyone to the Cathedral.
In 2005, the Frosts are launching the course in Singapore and Sydney
Australia. Again it will be a pilot project. Interest is being
show in the United States, Germany, Russia and Melbourne, Australia.
In the United Kingdom and Ireland it is hoped to do further pilot projects
in the North and East of England and in other centres.
